Questions
Answers for co-parents.
Getting started
What is akani?
akani is a co-parenting app for separated parents. Messages, the schedule, shared expenses, documents, and your own private notes live in one calm place, with every message and change kept on the record.
Is akani a group chat?
No. Messaging is one conversation between two co-parents in a single household relationship.
When can I start using akani?
akani is in early access. Join the waitlist and we will email you when your spot opens.
Is the waitlist a purchase commitment?
No. Joining the waitlist only signs you up for launch and product updates.
Features
Does Tone Check send or rewrite my message automatically?
No. Tone Check flags wording that may escalate things and offers a calmer version. You decide whether to use the suggestion, edit your own words, or send it as written.
Can the other parent read my journal?
No. Your journal is private to you. The other parent cannot see, search, or export it.
Which plan adds document storage?
Clear adds the document vault, folders, watermarked viewing, and support for multiple children. Higher plans include it too.
Which plan includes exports?
Declare includes message history export. All-in adds the court ready PDF workflow and read only professional access.
Can I use akani records with my attorney or mediator?
Yes. Exports gather messages, calendar events, expenses, and activity into one organized PDF you can save, print, or share. Whether a court accepts a record is up to the court.
akani number
Does the other parent have to join?
No. With the akani number add on, you text them from akani and their replies land in your thread with the date and time. If they join later, you keep messaging in the app.
What is the akani number?
An add on for $2 a month. You get a number to text the other parent from akani, and their replies come back into your thread tagged “by text.”
Do my texts still go through Tone Check?
Yes. Messages you send from akani are checked before they go out, whether they go in the app or by text.
Plans and billing
Are prices per household or per parent?
Prices are per parent. Each parent manages and pays for their own account separately.
Do both parents have to choose the same plan?
No. Each parent chooses the plan that fits their own needs, and one parent’s plan does not control the other’s.
Does a higher plan include the lower plan features?
Yes. Clear includes Calm, Declare includes Clear, and All-in includes Declare.
How much do I save with yearly billing?
Yearly billing costs the same as 10 months, so you save about 17% compared with paying monthly for 12 months.
